Preview: Hiwassee Dam Eagles vs. Highlands Highlanders
Hiwassee Dam is 9-1 against Highlands since January of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hiwassee Dam Eagles will be home for the holidays to greet the Highlands Highlanders at 8:00 p.m. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Hiwassee Dam pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 75-66 to Murphy. While losing is never fun, Hiwassee Dam can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 516th, while Murphy is ranked 37th).
Meanwhile, Highlands lost to Hayesville on the road by a decisive 61-42 margin on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Highlands in their matchups with Hayesville: they've now lost eight in a row.
Hiwassee Dam's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Highlands, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything went Hiwassee Dam's way against Highlands when the teams last played back in February as Hiwassee Dam made off with a 77-52 win. Will Hiwassee Dam repeat their success, or does Highlands have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
