Soccer Game Preview: Lone Peak vs. Riverton

The Lone Peak Knights will challenge the Riverton Silverwolves at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Lone Peak sitting on seven straight wins and Riverton on three.

Lone Peak is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Corner Canyon 2-1. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Lone Peak's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Utah soccer rankings (they are ranked second, while Corner Canyon are ranked 47th).

Juan Cubillas and Patrick Stevenson scored both of Lone Peak's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 13 goals.

Meanwhile, Riverton won against Mountain Ridge two weeks ago with two goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again on Tuesday. The Silverwolves sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Salt Lake Academy.

Riverton's victory bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Lone Peak, their win bumped their record up to 16-2.

Lone Peak took their victory against Riverton in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 5-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Knights since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
