Football Game Preview: Waco Christian Warriors vs. Newman International Academy Warriors

After each having a week off, Waco Christian and Newman International Academy will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Waco Christian has three straight victories, Newman International Academy has ten straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Waco Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past St. Mary's, posting a 92-47 win. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won three contests by 38 points or more so far this season.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Waco Christian, adding 18 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Mason Graham, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

One reason for the win was Waco Christian's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Matthew Kolb and Israel Neie, who racked up all four sacks between them. Kolb has been hot, having also posted five or more total tackles the last five times he's played.

Meanwhile, Newman International Academy fell victim to Harvest Christian Academy and their airtight defense last Friday. They were outmatched by the Saints and fell 56-0. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Saints are ranked 72nd).

The victory got Waco Christian back to even at 3-3. As for Newman International Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
