Baseball Recap: Fillmore Takes a Loss

Fillmore has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.81 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They took a 10-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Genesee Valley Jaguars. The defeat continues a trend for the Eagles in their meetings with the Jaguars: they've now lost three in a row.

Fillmore got a good showing from Malcolm Nusbickle, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Furthermore, Nusbickle didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Damon Potter and James Hillman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Potter went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two RBI, while Hillman went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Hillman has become a key player for Fillmore: the team is 5-2 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Boon, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Fillmore's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Genesee Valley, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fillmore will welcome Campbell-Savona at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Genesee Valley, they will take on Canisteo at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
