Recap: Grove City Greyhounds vs. Bishop Watterson Eagles

The Grove City Greyhounds came tearing into Thursday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They ended the year with a bang, routing Bishop Watterson 57-37. Considering Grove City has won three matches by more than 19 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kraig Gilbert continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points. The contest was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kevin Gallagher, who scored ten points.

Grove City pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Bishop Watterson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-2.

Grove City will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Franklin Heights at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Franklin Heights will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 683rd, while Grove City is ranked 50th). Bishop Watterson and Bloom-Carroll will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2024 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday.
