Softball Game Preview: Churchill Chargers vs. Brandeis Broncos

The Churchill Chargers will challenge the Brandeis Broncos at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Brandeis took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Churchill, who comes in off a win.

Churchill will bounce into Friday's game after beating Clark, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Chargers came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 11-7 on Tuesday.

The team relied heavily on Xiomara Sostre, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Lianna Aguilar, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Brandeis didn't have quite enough to beat Johnson on Saturday and fell 3-2. The Broncos haven't had much luck with the Jaguars recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Marina Pichardo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brandeis saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bianca Serna, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Churchill has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-13-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Brandeis, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

Churchill came out on top in a nail-biter against Brandeis when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Broncos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
