Baseball Recap: Simi Valley Takes a Loss

Simi Valley entered their contest against Royal on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. Simi Valley fell just short of Royal by a score of 2-1. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Pioneers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Jackson Goshorn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Simi Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Quentin McGahan, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Andrew Nicklaus also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Simi Valley's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3. As for Royal, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Coming up, Simi Valley will take on El Dorado in a tournament on Monday. As for Royal, they will take on Rio Mesa at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
