Football Recap: West Mecklenburg Starts Season with Loss on the Road + How To Watch

West Mecklenburg had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a blow against the Ashbrook Greenwave, falling 35-8. The Hawks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Greenwave from their previous meeting back in September of 2024.

Ashbrook's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aj McClain, who rushed for 71 yards and one TD, and also threw for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 64 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Savion Lindsay, who gained 108 total yards and a touchdown.

Coming up, West Mecklenburg will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Statesville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Ashbrook, they will head out on the road to square off against Berry at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
