Baseball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

After flying high against Valor Christian last Wednesday, Heritage came back down to earth. The Eagles lost 12-6 to the Fossil Ridge SaberCats on Saturday. If the Eagles were looking for revenge after losing 9-3 to the SaberCats when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Jameson Switzer and Hunter Eells stepped up to the plate in a big way. Switzer went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI, while Eells went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Switzer has become a key player for Heritage: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three RBI, but 2-8 otherwise. Nick Laudano also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Heritage has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Heritage will take on Rock Canyon at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Jaguars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.22 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fossil Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on Rocky Mountain at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lobos' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the SaberCats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
