Softball Recap: La Habra Finds Playoff Glory Versus Upland

It's playoff time, and La Habra had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Upland Highlanders/Scots on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Madison Payne tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Hernandez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Eliana Corona was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

La Habra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .323 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

La Habra's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for Upland, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-8.

Coming up, La Habra will square off against Etiwanda at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Highlanders 2.6, the Eagles 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Upland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
