Baseball Game Preview: Valmeyer Pirates vs. New Athens Yellow Jackets

For the second straight game, Valmeyer will face off against New Athens. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Yellow Jackets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Valmeyer came up short against New Athens and fell 7-3. The Pirates have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For New Athens' part, Carson Lauer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Wil Mulholland was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for New Athens: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-5 otherwise. Brodie Sieber was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

New Athens was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

Valmeyer's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-9. As for New Athens, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-5.
