Baseball Game Preview: Corning Bobcats vs. Cross County Thunderbirds

The Corning Bobcats will take on the Cross County Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Corning will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

While Corning's victory against Piggott wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Corning had just enough and edged out Piggott 6-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cross County, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They blew past East Poinsett County 11-1 on Monday. The Thunderbirds' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

East Poinsett County's batters probably weren't too happy with Knoa Roberts, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up four walks). Roberts also allowed no hits, which is notable because Cross County is 2-1 when he allows at most two hits, but 0-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Braxton Armstrong was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Troy Wallis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Cross County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Corning's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Cross County, they moved to 2-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
