Volleyball Recap: Winfield Extends Home Winning Streak to 13

Winfield faced Charleston Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Generals walked away with a 2-0 win over the Irish. That's more bragging rights for the Generals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

The 2-0 score doesn't really reflect how close the match was: every set was decided by three points or less. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 26-24.

Brooklyn Cole paced Winfield's offense, picking up 11 kills. Cole got some help from Macee Shock and her 15 assists.

Despite the defeat, Charleston Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ali Wilcox had 13 digs and three assists. Wilcox has been hot, having posted 11 or more digs the last six times she's played.

Winfield pushed their record up to 15-5-2 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Charleston Catholic, with the loss, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 17-3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winfield will head out to challenge Wayne at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Charleston Catholic, they will square off against Spring Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
