Softball Recap: Academy of the New Church Triumphs

Academy of the New Church hadn't done well against Shipley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Lions walked away with a 5-2 victory over Shipley. The Lions haven't had any issues with Shipley recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jamie Madara was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Madara was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times she's played.

Madara wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isabella Furness, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Ava Teich also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Academy of the New Church's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Shipley, they dropped their record down to 1-5 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Academy of the New Church is set to take on their familiar foe Friends' Central at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Shipley will square off against rival Friends Select at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
