Baseball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 19 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-15. They lost 17-7 to the Wildwood Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 26-2 back in March.

Jovanni Rios made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple.

As for Wildwood, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for Wildwood, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On Wildwood's side, Vinny Fusco-Sweeney looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Fusco-Sweeney has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wildwood let Trevor Troiano and Michael Blanda run wild. Troiano went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Blanda went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Wildwood is undefeated when Troiano posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Nolan Mawhinney was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Coming up, Salem will take on Camden Academy Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Wildwood, they will host Wildwood Catholic at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
