Baseball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Columbus' Eighth in Last Nine Outings

Columbus picked up another tournament win on Friday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Stony Brook Bears.

Stony Brook's batters probably weren't too happy with Dayan Viciedo, who pitched a no hitter (he gave up two walks).

At the plate, Jose Correa and Mario Magana did most of the damage at the plate: Correa scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Magana scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Matthew Fernandez was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Columbus is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-5 record this season. As for Stony Brook, their loss dropped their record down to 11-5-1.

Columbus and Stony Brook are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Explorers will take on Miami at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Stony Brook, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Seton Hall Prep at 12:00 p.m. on the 26th.
