Basketball Game Preview: Middletown Middies vs. Lakota West Firebirds

The Middletown Middies just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Lakota West Firebirds at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Middletown is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

On Friday, Middletown came up short against Mason and fell 68-59. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Middies came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Comets are ranked 402nd).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Lakota West, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Colerain 72-39. The Firebirds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 23 points or more this season.

Lakota West is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Middletown, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Middletown came up short against Lakota West when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 57-52. Can Middletown avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
