Softball Game Preview: Mitchell Bluejackets vs. West Washington Senators

Mitchell is 1-8 against West Washington since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Bluejackets will venture away from home to square off against the Senators at 5:00 p.m.

Mitchell is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since April 11, 2025 on Friday. They fell just short of South Central by a score of 3-1.

Meanwhile, West Washington came tearing into Thursday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 9-4.

Ava Cooper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maggie Morrow, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and four RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Macy Lowery was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

West Washington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for West Washington, their record now sits at 13-3.

Mitchell suffered a grim 13-0 defeat to West Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Bluejackets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
