Hillside made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Southeast Raleigh, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Hillside put the hurt on Southeast Raleigh with a sharp 11-1 victory on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Hornets needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.
Caleb Williams was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Eric Bonner was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Hillside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Enloe put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Knightdale. Enloe walked away with a 4-0 win over Knightdale. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The result came thanks to Malhar Shelke's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up nine Ks. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on William ?Will? Modlin, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Cole Thomas, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Enloe pushed their record up to 3-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Hillside, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-1.
Enloe's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hillside hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. It's a different story for Enloe, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Hillside's hitters?
Hillside might still be hurting after the 14-1 loss they got from Enloe in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Hillside avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
