5A District 11 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Estero extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 11 this week by beating Lehigh, 41-39. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Wildcats.
Estero moved up to 214 from 240 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Rich Dombroski's team was able to make move up by defeating the Lightning 41-39.
The Wildcats' dynamic duo of Christian Phillips and Nick Nataro proved tough for Lehigh to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Phillips threw for 323 yards and four touchdowns and Nataro had 132 yards receiving. Jason Correll helped Estero's passing attack out by catching three balls for 57 yards.
Eric Russaw was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 136 yards on 22 carries as Mariner bested Nathan Sund's team. Teammate Anthony Chambers added to the ground attack by rushing for 66 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Phillips and Eric McFadden the Wildcats have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Phillips leads the league in passing with 1792 yards, while McFadden has rushed for 1325 yards this season. Cape Coral's Rashaan Gaymon leads the league in receiving yards with 582 on 41 catches.
Estero and the Lightning played the most hotly contested game in 5A District 11 this week, with Estero eventually emerging with a 41-39 victory. Phillips ran for 38 yards in the win.
