Recap: Ninety Six Wildcats vs. Saluda Tigers
If the Ninety Six Wildcats were feeling good off their 49-21 takedown of the Abbeville Panthers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Ninety Six fell to Saluda 39-34. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Ninety Six of the 35-26 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.
Despite the loss, Ninety Six still got an impressive performance from Janiyah Squire, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 20 rebounds. Squire hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for 11 straight games. Olivia Coster was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Ninety Six struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Ninety Six's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Saluda, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season.
Ninety Six does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Saluda, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mid-Carolina at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Saluda is on a four-game streak of home wins, Mid-Carolina a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
