El Capitan had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They skirted past the Livingston Wolves 59-57. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gauchos have posted since December 3, 2024.

El Capitan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but AJ Jones led the charge by shooting 54% from the field on his way to 17 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Ervin, who posted 20 points and five boards.

Livingston's loss came despite strong showings from Christian Deol and Adrian Aguirre. Deol went 8-for-18 to rack up 22 points, while Aguirre earned 24 points and four steals. The game was Aguirre's third in a row with at least 17 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Livingston and nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Coming up, El Capitan will challenge Enochs at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Livingston, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Riverbank at 7:00 p.m.
