Softball Game Preview: Lowellville Rockets vs. Springfield Tigers

The Lowellville Rockets are taking a road trip to face off against the Springfield Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Lowellville lost 11-1 to Mineral Ridge last Tuesday.

Morgan Lewis was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-2. Another player making a difference was Poala Andino, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Springfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Jackson-Milton, falling 18-3.

Giuliana Battaglini made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run. She also scored a run, marking her first of the season. Gracie Maldonado was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Springfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Lowellville, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Lowellville took their win against Springfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
