Lumberton and Sacred Heart are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. Lumberton will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sacred Heart will be up against a hot Lumberton team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Lumberton never let East Marion get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over Richton. The game was the first time the Crusaders have beaten the Rebels on their field since March 28, 2015.
Jackson Gamber made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Adam Rhodes looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Brad Marrero, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Darren Brown, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Sacred Heart was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .382. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Richton only posted a batting average of .179.
Sacred Heart has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. Lumberton's victory bumped their record up to 11-3-1.
Lumberton suffered a grim 12-5 defeat to Sacred Heart in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Lumberton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
