Preview: Augusta Christian Lions vs. Cardinal Newman Cardinals
Augusta Christian has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Cardinal Newman Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Augusta Christian will be strutting in after a win while Cardinal Newman will be coming in after a loss.
After only ten points in their last contest, Augusta Christian made sure to put some points up on the board against Ben Lippen on Friday. Augusta Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Ben Lippen and snuck past 31-28.
Meanwhile, Cardinal Newman pushed their score all the way to 42 last Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 49-42 to Porter-Gaud. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (38), Cardinal Newman still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Duncan Skehan, who threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Cortez Lane was another key contributor, gaining 99 total yards and three touchdowns.
Augusta Christian's win bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Cardinal Newman, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2.
Augusta Christian came up short against Cardinal Newman when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 37-28. Thankfully for Augusta Christian, Anthony Jarius ?AJ? Reyes (who rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
