Baseball Game Preview: Pima Roughriders vs. Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans

The Pima Roughriders are taking a road trip to take on the Gilbert Classical Academy Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pima will be strutting in after a victory while Gilbert Classical Academy will be coming in after a defeat.

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Pima and Morenci had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Roughriders walked away with a 5-1 win over the Wildcats on Monday. The victory continues a trend for the Roughriders in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.

Ramon Hernandez made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cedrick Grimes, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Pima is undefeated when Grimes posts two or more runs, but 2-10 otherwise. Rhiley Good was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Pima hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morenci struck out seven times.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Gilbert Classical Academy was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They came up short against Wickenburg, falling 12-1.

Pima's record is now 6-10. As for Gilbert Classical Academy, they dropped their record down to 4-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Pima skirted past Gilbert Classical Academy 9-7 in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Roughriders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
