Baseball Game Preview: Morgan Trojans vs. Kearns Cougars

The Morgan Trojans will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Kearns Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Morgan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Timpanogos, who was ranked 19th at the time (Morgan was ranked ninth). Morgan lost 14-4 to Timpanogos on Monday. The match marked the Trojans' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Luke Bauerle was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Kanyon Leonelli, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Kearns unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Bonneville last Tuesday, falling 13-2.

Kearns saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daymin Ward, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Morgan moved to 5-2 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kearns, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
