Softball Recap: Western Guilford Takes a Loss

After flying high against Grimsley last Friday, Western Guilford came back down to earth. The Hornets lost 24-11 to the Page Pirates on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-18 back in March.

Sadie Pender stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Emilee Jones also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Western Guilford's loss was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Page, their victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Guilford will face off against Southeast Guilford at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets will need to watch out since the Falcons have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matches. As for Page, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Northern Guilford at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Nighthawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
