Basketball Game Preview: Centerville Elks vs. St. Ignatius Wildcats

The Centerville Elks will head out to face off against the St. Ignatius Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Saturday, Centerville beat Beavercreek 66-59. Given the Elks' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 120th, while the Beavers are ranked 280th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for St. Ignatius, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Sunday. They walked away with a 74-63 victory over Buchtel on Saturday.

St. Ignatius pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.8 points per game. As for Centerville, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Centerville came up short against St. Ignatius in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 66-56. Can Centerville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
