Recap: Scales Mound Hornets vs. Benton Zephyrs
The Scales Mound Hornets can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Monday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Benton 71-22 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-8.
Leading Scales Mound to victory were Aidan Soppe and Thomas Hereau. Soppe scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Hereau scored 18 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Soppe has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Seth Birkett, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Scales Mound is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Benton, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Scales Mound will take on West Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Carroll will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings (they are ranked 751st, while Scales Mound is ranked 224th). As for Benton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Lancaster at 7:15 p.m. on February 6th.
