Baseball Recap: North Branch Comes Up Short

North Branch extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to ten on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-5. They came up short against the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bluejackets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-1 last Wednesday.

North Branch saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Spencer Miller, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that Miller has snagged this season.

As for Cambridge-Isanti, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average this season.

On Cambridge-Isanti's side, Blake Wotachek made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Wotachek has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tayton Westphal was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Brayden Otier, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. North Branch is set to take on their familiar foe Zimmerman at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Cambridge-Isanti will face off against rival Chisago Lakes Area at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
