Baseball Recap: Delta Comes Up Short

Delta extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-6. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Swanton Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-3 two weeks ago.

Carlos DeSantos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Swanton, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

On Swanton's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and he was also dialed-in: Carson Bond gave up only one earned run on two hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Swanton saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Marlow, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Cole Epley also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Delta will take on Otsego at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Swanton, they will square off against Southview at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
