Football Game Preview: Alvin Yellowjackets vs. Manvel Mavericks

The Alvin Yellowjackets will head out on the road to challenge the Manvel Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Alvin is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 38 points back in September, they were much more limited against Sam Rayburn last Friday. They fell 16-7 to the Texans.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Manvel's strategy against Sam Rayburn on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Mavericks blew the Texans out of the water with a 49-6 final score. The Mavericks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by 31 points or more this season.

While passing duties were split, you can't argue with the impact Cam Renfro and Dante Mayes both made on the contest. Renfro rushed for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only five carries while Mayes gained 222 total yards and a touchdown. What's more, Renfro racked up 155.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.

The win made it two in a row for Manvel and bumps their season record up to 4-3. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 13 points in those games. As for Alvin, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Alvin might still be hurting after the 42-21 defeat they got from Manvel in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Renfro, who threw for 143 yards and two TDs while completing 81.2% of his passes, and also rushed for 54 yards and one score on only six carries. Now that the Yellowjackets know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
