Basketball Recap: Southwestern Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Southwestern hadn't done well against Jac-Cen-Del recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Southwestern Rebels strolled past the Jac-Cen-Del Eagles with points to spare, taking the game 59-44. That's more bragging rights for the Rebels, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Southwestern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Savannah Nussbaum led the charge by putting up seven points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Nussbaum is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Olivia Simpson was another key player, earning eight points in addition to nine boards and seven assists.

Southwestern was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jac-Cen-Del only racked up eight assists.

When it comes to explaining why Jac-Cen-Del lost, don't look at Cheyenne Cullen. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 12 on her way to 17 points and five assists. Those 17 points gave Cullen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kellsie Bedel, who posted six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

Southwestern's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-8. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.5 points per game. Southwestern has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 178 points over their last three contests. As for Jac-Cen-Del, they will face off against Hauser at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Jac-Cen-Del is facing Hauser at the right time seeing as Hauser is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
