Baseball Game Preview: Leadership Academy Falcons vs. Asheboro Blue Comets

The Leadership Academy Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Asheboro Blue Comets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Leadership Academy will be strutting in after a win while Asheboro will be coming in after a loss.

Leadership Academy will bounce into Wednesday's matchup after beating Cornerstone Charter, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Leadership Academy walked away with a 6-2 victory over Cornerstone Charter on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Chase Jenkins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Leadership Academy is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Hank Gaston was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Asheboro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Central Davidson. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Gavin Allen put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Ben Luck was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Sam Gore also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Asheboro's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Leadership Academy, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
