Football Recap: Johnson Starts Season with Win Against Mesa Verde

Johnson had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. Their defense stepped up to hand the Mesa Verde Mavericks a 13-0 shutout on Tuesday.

Anissa Zavala threw for 170 yards on 14 of 23 attempts. Mykah Maui was her top target, picking up 41 receiving yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mesa Verde fell to 2-1.

Johnson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 19-14 win against Laguna Creek on the 26th. As for Mesa Verde, they will head out to face off against Futures at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
