Baseball Recap: Belle Takes a Loss

Belle had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 8-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the Eugene Eagles by a score of 3-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 7-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Eugene, they are on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Eugene's part, Sam Schulte made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Schulte has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Belle will square off against Steelville at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Eugene, they will take on Smithton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
