Softball Game Preview: Owen J. Roberts Wildcats vs. Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers

The Owen J. Roberts Wildcats will head out to face off against the Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Owen J. Roberts 2.2, Marple Newtown 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Owen J. Roberts hadn't beaten Boyertown on the road since April 30, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them last Wednesday. The Wildcats came out on top against the Bears by a score of 5-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Maddie Reed was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Amelia Atkins, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

Meanwhile, Marple Newtown came tearing into Friday's contest with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over the Fords. Marple Newtown's win was all the more impressive since the Fords were averaging only 2.83 runs allowed on the season.

Marple Newtown's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Owen J. Roberts, their record is now 14-5.
