Baseball Recap: Frankfort Takes a Loss

Frankfort extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Zeigler-Royalton Tornadoes. That's two games in a row now that the Redbirds have lost by exactly two runs.

As for Zeigler-Royalton, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games.

For Zeigler-Royalton's part, Carson Hobbs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Chase Cole, who went 3-for-4 with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Chase Freeman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Coming up, Frankfort will head out to take on Benton at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Zeigler-Royalton, they will welcome Goreville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
