Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Victorious

While Mt. Vernon didn't have the best season last year (they finished 15-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Carbondale Terriers on Tuesday. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Terriers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Danicah Tobin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi McMillen, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Mt. Vernon is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Carbondale, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 5-6.

Mt. Vernon will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Terriers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
