The Mohawk Warriors will face off against the Hilltop Cadets at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Mohawk sitting on seven straight wins and Hilltop on 13.
Mohawk will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Saturday, then bounced right back against Upper Sandusky on Tuesday. The Warriors walked away with a 12-8 victory over the Rams.
Mohawk let Mallory Brickner and Katie Woodland run wild. Brickner went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Woodland went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Brickner has posted since back in April. Trenna Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hilltop walked away with it. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 8-5 on Saturday.
The team relied heavily on Maggie Altman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Sophie Graham, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Hilltop kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 13 consecutive games.
Hilltop's win bumped their record up to 26-3. As for Mohawk, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mohawk hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Hilltop struggles in that department as they've averaged .398. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Mohawk couldn't quite finish off Hilltop in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 and fell 7-5. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
