Softball Recap: Desoto County Wins Going Away Against Gateway

The DeSoto County Bulldogs got the win against the Gateway Eagles on Friday by a conclusive 17-2. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by nine runs or more this season.

Mya Goodnoe made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Goodnoe was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Juliette Wolcott, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Emery Skinner was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

DeSoto County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only posted an OBP of .333.

The win made it two in a row for DeSoto County and bumps their season record up to 5-5. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.5 runs over those games. As for Gateway, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. DeSoto County will challenge Port Charlotte at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gateway, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on DeSoto County at 6:30 p.m. on April 7.
