Basketball Game Preview: Lewis County Minutemen vs. Preston Knights

The Lewis County Minutemen will head out on the road to challenge the Preston Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Lewis County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.

Lewis County is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Liberty 91-28. The Minutemen have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won ten games by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Preston didn't have quite enough to beat Tygarts Valley on Saturday and fell 56-54.

Lewis County will have to contain IsaBella Miller as she made an impact in Preston's last game. She posted 18 points and three steals. Preston is 2-1 when Miller posts three or more steals, but 5-11 otherwise. Kendra Nazelrod was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.

Preston has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. Lewis County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Lewis County against Preston in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 66-31 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lewis County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
