3A District 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012

Dakota Brasher and Teel Blake provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Blackwell. The connection was good for 54 yards, the longest such play in 3A District 5 this season.

Verdigris extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Maroons, 55-20. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.

Verdigris' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Brasher threw for 120 and three touchdowns and Blake had 71 yards receiving. On the ground Tanner Smith chipped in 200 yards. Ryan Hurd helped Verdigris' passing attack out by catching one ball for 30 yards.

Berryhill's Zach Jackson and JUSTIN JACKSON have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Jackson has thrown for 592 yards this season, while JACKSON has 21 catches for 288 yards. Smith from Dan Nickles's team leads the league in rushing with 828 yards.

The top two teams in 3A District 5 will face off this week when first place Verdigris takes on second place Berryhill. The Cardinals topped Blackwell last week, while the Chiefs beat Dewey.

There should be lots of points scored when Berryhill and Verdigris face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Pat Harper's team comes in having scored 150 this season, while the Cardinals have scored 178. The Chiefs scored 45 points last week as they bested the Bulldoggers.

Berryhill suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 45-20 loss to Berryhill. The Chiefs had been ranked 23rd, but fell to 35 following the defeat.
