Baseball Recap: Pickett County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Clay County

Pickett County scored the most runs they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Clay County Bulldogs by a score of 16-15. The Bobcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

John Reels was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Pickett County is 4-1 when Reels posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Eli Reagan made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Jayden Daniels, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

The defeat snapped Pickett County's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 7-7 record. As for Clay County, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-10.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Bulldogs beat Pickett County by a score of 10-8 on Tuesday.
