Softball Recap: Cleveland Central's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

After flying high against Lake Cormorant last Monday, Cleveland Central came back down to earth. The Cleveland Central Wolves fell just short of the Yazoo County Panthers by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Wolves were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Panthers earlier this season, when they won 9-8.

Jaida Williams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Jada Kinney was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

The defeat snapped Cleveland Central's winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-2 record. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Yazoo County, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cleveland Central and Riverside will meet in a dog eat dog contest at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Riverside knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Cleveland Central likes a good challenge. Yazoo County will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Edwards at 4:30 p.m. on March 18th.
