Softball Recap: Mountain Crest Starts Season with Victory Against Pine View

Mountain Crest had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Pine View Panthers 24-3 on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Mustangs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Morgan Coulam was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Dani Alexander was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Izzy Laughery, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Mountain Crest always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .842. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pine View only posted an OBP of .333.

Pine View is on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Mountain Crest will be playing in front of their home fans against Wasatch Academy at 9:45 a.m. on Friday. As for Pine View, they will take on Kanab in a tournament on Saturday.
