Softball Game Preview: Cox Falcons vs. Kempsville Chiefs

Cox hasn't had much luck against Kempsville recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Falcons will be playing at home against the Chiefs at 4:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Cox will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Green Run on Tuesday. The Falcons were the clear victors by an 18-4 margin over the Stallions. The Falcons haven't had any issues with the Stallions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

The team relied heavily on Addison Shea, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Siena Gandolfo, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Cox always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .634. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kempsville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They put the hurt on Churchland with a sharp 18-2 victory on Monday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Chiefs needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Cox's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Kempsville, they now have a winning record of 7-6.

Cox might still be hurting after the 11-2 defeat they got from Kempsville when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can the Falcons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
