Basketball Recap: Monterey Snags Tenth Win in Last 12 Games

Monterey won the last time they faced Pacific Grove and things went their way on Monday too. The Monterey Dores walked away with a 66-57 victory over the Pacific Grove Breakers. Given the Dores' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Breakers are ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pacific Grove's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andrew Nimri, who went 9 of 17 en route to 24 points and six rebounds. Nimri is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 20 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Valencia, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points and five boards.

Monterey has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.4 points per game. As for Pacific Grove, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Monterey will take on Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Monterey is facing Salinas at the right time seeing as Salinas is stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Pacific Grove, they will face off against Alisal at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Pacific Grove is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 60.2 points per game this season.
