Basketball Recap: Goodpasture Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Kenwood

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goodpasture Christian). They blew past the Kenwood Knights 73-41 on Monday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Cougars with their most commanding win of the season.

Goodpasture Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lazaviona Hawkins led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten assists. Hawkins is becoming a predictor of Goodpasture Christian's success: when she posts at least eight assists the team is 6-3 (and 1-2 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Jones, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points and five steals.

Hawkins wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Goodpasture Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Kenwood lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Yazmine Pearson, who posted 16 points. That was a full 39% of Kenwood's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zakiya White, who posted 11 points.

Goodpasture Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Kenwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Goodpasture Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 win against Mount Juliet Christian Academy on the 7th. As for Kenwood, they will square off against Henry County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
